General Purpose of this Job

Assist with day to day operations of the Café.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Greet guests, takes order, close sale, and thank the customer
  • Provide excellent customer service in the Café
  • Have full knowledge of the menu options, cooking methods, and ingredients for aggressive up-selling and to promote daily specials
  • Prepare coffee and coffee beverages
  • Prepare smoothies and other beverages according to standardized recipes
  • Operate POS system: including the accurate entering of sales information, receiving payment for products, processing credit card transactions, making correct changes, processing refunds
  • Complete side work as assigned for opening, closing, and throughout the day
  • Ensure items ordered match items received
  • Assist with cleanliness of café and surrounding areas
  • Clean and clear tables within a timely manner
  • Restock items accordingly
  • Set, service, and maintain Café dry items such as condiments and pre-packaged foods
  • Report safety and security issues promptly and correctly to supervisor
  • Other duties as required

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills                                                             

  • Requires computer literacy in Excel, Word, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office Products
  • Must be able to work with POS system

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Food Safety Handlers Certificate

Other Skills and Abilities                                                           

  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment
  • Proper Telephone etiquette
  • Cash handling experience a must

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
